Norfolk Emergency Shelter Team (NEST)
St. Andrew’s is a member of NEST, a coalition of churches and synagogues that provide shelter for the homeless during the winter months. Each institution hosts the shelter for one week, after which it rotates to the next.
During NEST Week, White Hall (Social Hall) is converted into a primitive dormitory for homeless men and women. Our guests arrive each evening, get a hot meal, sleep on mats on the floor and leave again first thing in the morning after a light breakfast. As always, we will be looking for volunteers to help with this important ministry. There are lots of jobs, and we will post a sign up sheet on the Parish Life Bulletin Board and at the information table in White Hall.
If you are willing to serve on the NEST Coordinating Committee, please contact the Parish Office at 622-5530. Committee members will help organize volunteer schedules, meals, toiletry items and other necessary tasks to make sure everything works smoothly when NEST Week arrives.
